NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 13 – Kenya plans to grow its exports to the rest of the world by 20 percent per annum by 2020.
State Department for Trade PS Chris Kiptoo says the feat is achievable of only Kenya focuses on the right things to export.
As such, the ministry has commissioned the development of a strategy, dubbed ‘National Export Development and Promotion Strategy’ which will be used as a guideline for achieving this goal.
The strategy will be ready in 2 months.
To grow the exports, Kenya has been recommended to focus on 6 items that include Tea, Coffee, Horticulture, textile and apparels among others.
At the same time, the country has shortlisted 12 countries which have the potential of taking up more of its exports which will assist in achieving the 20% growth of exports.
These countries include Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Egypt, UK, Netherlands, USA and DRC among others.
