NAIROBI, KENYA, NOVEMBER 20 — The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) kicked of the week with low trading activities being witnessed at the bourse compared to last week.
The market opened Monday’s trading with a total of 7.0 million shares valued at Ksh253 million against 17 million shares valued at Ksh413 million posted on Friday.
The NSE 20 share Index was down 4.86 points to stand at 2801.72 All Share Index (NASI) shed 0.95 points to settle at 143.95 The NSE 25 Share Index lost 20.33 points to stand at 3641.34.
The banking sector had shares worth Ksh125.5 million transacted which accounted for 49.55 per cent of the day’s traded value.
Equity Group Holdings was the day’s main feature with 1.5 million shares valued at Ksh61.4 million changing hands at between Ksh39.25 and Ksh40.00.
KCB Group unchanged at Ksh39.00 moved 1.3 million shares valued at Ksh52.2 million.
The manufacturing sector had shares worth Ksh68.9 million transacted which represented 27.20 per cent of the day’s traded value.
East African Breweries Limited down two shillings to Ksh164.00 moved 361,000 shares valued at Ksh59.3 million.
BOC Kenya moved 117,000 shares valued at Ksh8.7 million and closed the day at Ksh75.00.
Telecommunication Safaricom had 2.1 million shares valued at Ksh51.5 million transacted at between Ksh23.50 and Ksh24.00. The telco accounted for 20.36 per cent of the day’s traded value, becoming the single largest mover of the day.
The insurance sector had shares worth Ksh2.8 million transacted which represented 1.12 per cent of the day’s traded value.
Kenya-Re remained stable at Ksh15.35 with 87,000 shares valued at Ksh1.3 million realized.
The commercial and services sector had shares worth Ksh2.2 million traded and accounted for 0.87 per cent of the day’s turnover.
Nation Media moved 22,000 shares valued at Ksh1.5 million and closed the day at Ksh68.50.
The energy and petroleum sector had shares worth Ksh1.6 million traded and accounted for 0.64 per cent of the day’s turnover.
Kenya Power moved 219,000 shares valued at Ksh825, 000 at between Ksh3.60 and Ksh3.85. KenGen down 0.05 per cent to Ksh7.10 had 71,000 shares valued at Ksh510, 000 transacted.
The bond market had bonds worth Ksh957 million transacted. Last week, the bond market witnessed bonds worth Ksh8.3 billion transacted compared to Ksh7.6 billion the previous week.
