Rwanda, 26 – StarTimes, Pay Television Company has devoted itself to sponsor the national basketball league in Rwanda after completing the deal with Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA). The contract is tied down to the next three years ending at 2020.
The partnership is believed to be in the region of $87,750 which will be provided by the media company.
The new league has been dubbed StarTimes Basketball National League as the result of the merge between FERWABA and StarTimes.
The two parties finalized the deal with StarTimes penning down broadcasting rights as well on Wednesday. They will be airing the league games as an initiative to get more subscribers from Rwanda.
The sport is growing in the East African country, and the Chinese media will inject a minimum of $29,250 annually, to cater for the league.
Other than football that has a rather wider viewership and audience, StarTimes is aware of the niche of fans that follow other sports. Rwanda has showcased brilliant talents in the game and with the sponsorship; a number of players could be eligible for topflight clubs in Europe and other parts of the world.
FERWABA will take the initiative to ensure there is growth among players and development in the entire game. The Government will see the avenue as an opportunity to market the game as far as it can spread its wings.
StarTimes would have the liberty to advertise its products on the platform in a 40% space to continue with its advertising obligations. It is believed that FERWABA can hold talks with other potential sponsors without the consent of their primary sponsor StarTimes.
Such partnerships have cultivated sports culture in countries like SuperSport in its tenure with Kenya Premier League games that made the sport industry develop. They encourage players to work hard to attain their dream of playing for their dream clubs.
